CRANEbee Licensing: Transition to Online User Accounts
Overview
We are introducing a new licensing mechanism for CRANEbee. This change affects all versions of the product and replaces the previous file-based system with a fully online licensing system based on discrete user accounts. The rollout will occur on a set date (to be announced), with a three-month transition period for registration.
Why We Are Making This Change
The move to an online licensing system ensures greater reliability, security, and flexibility for our customers. By linking licenses to user accounts rather than files, we eliminate manual activation steps and simplify license management. This approach also enables future enhancements such as self-service administration and role-based access control.
How the New System Works
- User Accounts: Each user must create an account using an email address and password. Each unique user can only log in to one device at a time.
- License Structure: Licenses are managed at the organization level. Multiple registered users can be associated with a single license. Concurrent usage is controlled by the number of seats in the license.
- Access: An active internet connection is required at all times. License validation occurs continuously during usage.
Migration for Existing Customers
- All current licenses will be migrated to the new system.
- Every user in a company, regardless of previous license type, must create an account to continue using CRANEbee after the transition period.
- If a CRANEbee installation is shared between users on a single computer, all of them get the chance to register, as the window will always appear.
- Prior single-user licenses will be combined into one organizational license where applicable.
Security and Compliance
- All account and licensing data is stored within the EU.
- Our system complies with GDPR requirements. Additional privacy and compliance documentation will be provided soon.
Future Enhancements
Initially, license and user management will be handled by our team. In a later phase, company administrators will gain access to an administration portal for managing users, roles, and seats.
